Within the 2-day tour, discover the nature and cultural heritage of the regions of Javakheti and Kartli. We will visit Josef Stalin's house museum in Gori, explore the ancient city of Uplistsikhe caves, taste the mineral waters in Borjomi and stroll in the Borjomi-Kharagauli national park. Within the framework of this excursion we will also visit the city of Akhaltsikhe, where we will visit the medieval fortress - Rabati, and on the second day we will visit the cave city of Vardzia.
Day 1: Tbilisi - Gori - Uplistsikhe - Borjomi - Akhaltsikhe
Meeting from the hotel and departure to the Samtskhe - Javakheti region. We will begin our excursion with a visit to the house / museum of Joseph Stalin, dedicated to the life of the leader of the Soviet Union. The museum consists of the house where Stalin was born and spent the first four years of his life; Here are the personal belongings of the leader, the famous armored train of the leader of the peoples. After a cognitive visit to the museum, go to the ancient rocky cave town Uplistsikhe, dating back to 1 millennium BC. The city is one of the oldest settlements in Georgia and is distinguished by a combination of Anatolian and Iranian culture. Here we will see secret tunnels, remains of ancient churches and a museum building, in which valuable objects that were excavated in Uplistsikhe are presented. After lunch break in one of the nearby restaurants, we will continue our journey to Javakheti. Next stop is Borjomi, a city famous for its sparkling mineral waters. Artesian springs feed on waters coming from glaciers, and rise to the surface without pumping. Further walk on the national park Borjomi-Kharagauli. The next stop is the city - Akhaltsikhe. Dinner at a local restaurant with traditional dishes. After dinner, check in at the hotel and relax.
Day 2: Akhaltsikhe - Vardzia - Tsalka - Tbilisi
After breakfast at the hotel we will explore the Rabat Fortress complex. The museum represents a large part of the cultural heritage of the Javakheti region, for example, ancient manuscripts, archaeological exhibits, ethnographic material, a collection of old carpets and much more. Rabati also includes a 18th century castle, a mosque and the ruins of an Islamic school. Continue along the gorge of the Mtkvari River, enjoying the view of the hilly landscape, rich in old fortresses on the way to Vardzia, a cave city dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries. Vardzia is carved on the slopes of Mount Erushte, stretching along a cliff 500 meters long and consisting of 19 tiers. To the Georgian queen Tamara is credited with the creation of a monastery in Vardzia during her reign in the 12th century. During its ascent, the city contained numerous apartments, a throne room and a large church with a bell tower. After the excursion we will enjoy a picnic with a hot trout barbecue in nature and go to Tbilisi through Tsalka, driving along the lake Sagamo, Paravane and Tsalka. The trip to the Javakheti region ends in the evening at the Hotel Tbilisi.
